Highlights from the Impermanent Collection

Digital exhibition in the form of a video game

The RISD 2023 Graphic Design MFA Biennial, titled “Highlights from the Impermanent Collection,” featured a visual identity inspired by green Jell-O. For the exhibition’s website, No Replica expanded on this identity and created a one-to-one digital recreation of the exhibition’s floor plan in the style of a video game. The website positions student artworks in situ to match their real-world arrangement and includes documentary photography from the live event. Visiting every tile of the digital exhibition reveals a secret prize!

Visitors are greeted with the show’s title, which shrinks to reveal the exhibition floor plan.

Visitors navigate the space using the arrow keys, onscreen buttons, or clicking the grid cell they want to visit.

The side panel organizes artwork by medium and lets visitors jump to their location on the floor plan.

Visitors can find the original floor plan as an Easter egg hidden on the map.
