This Is For You
Educational Handbook

A handbook for design students

Overview

RISD’s Graphic Design MFA program traditionally culminates in a physical book representing a student’s body of work and creative practice. This Is For You, the graduate thesis of No Replica founder Gabriel Drozdov, takes a different approach. Rather than centering the designer, the project centers the audience: prospective students seeking insight into the RISD experience and the design profession at large. To that end, the project exists as an ongoing digital document chronicling Gabriel’s life and career, designed to serve as a practical resource for aspiring designers.

The site begins with a generative collage of Gabriel’s projects, represented as colorful blocks.
Hovering over each block reveals a preview of the associated project. Readers are able to toggle between viewing projects as titles or thumbnails.
The book’s table of contents is presented as a horizontal timeline with short chapter descriptions.
The reading experience moves horizontally between chapters and vertically to scroll within a single chapter.
For the chapters in the second part of the book, titled “Making,” readers find all of Gabriel’s projects in chronological order sorted by major life events and MFA courses.
